very reliable only needing a service at the correct intervals and a new set of discs and pad to the front which has been done in the last three months, any one who buys a Subaru generally already knows a bit or two about these cars, and these are regarded as bullitt proof. The service history is fully stamped with most of the work carried out by Walldonway main dealership although it is due a service in about 2000 miles time. Now, there are a couple of minor niggles, firstly the alloys could do with smartning up as salt has gotten under the laqure and bubbled up, and secondly there is a small dent on the near side front wing, I have tried to high light it in the photo, but its not very noticable, but a full viewing is recommended. with it. It had the Cam belt changed July 2010 along with a stainless steel back box. Car has had an oil change in the last 1000 miles along with new drop and anti roll bar links. Impreza wheels recently powder coated white in very good condition. Tyres all have good tread. Very nice to drive and being a non-turbo, very reasonable insurance and obviously better economy. Handles very well and being a 4 wheel drive can come in very handy when it starts to snow. Only real faults are that the front passenger window has been replaced with one off a sti and has the brown Japanese tint, and also the left hand back door only opens from the outside? Sure it’s an easy fix but it’s never really bothered me so never got round to looking at it. Interior generally very good but does have a nick on the door card from the previous owner. Body in good condition no visible rust that I have found but has a few stone chips and scratches which have touched up buy the previous owner but are only visible when the car is gleaming. There are a couple of scuffs on the bumpers but these do not detract from the overall condition. | X

You will have seen Subaru SVXs for less than £2k and even some for around a grand – but they’ve all done over 100,000 and are tired and tatty to say the least. This has only done 37,500 miles and has had only 3 owners including me. I bought the car in April 2000 from a gentleman who had owned it since it was six months old – he covered less than 100 miles in that time (none from 1995-2000) - it sat alongside a Jaguar E-type and a Bugatti in his garage! He knew his cars. The car was originally owned by a member or Dick Lovett’s family. | I won’t bore you with all of the car’s details, but there is a good overall account if you follow this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Alcyone_SVX. | Very briefly, it is a 4 wheel drive 3.3 litre flat six cylinder luxury grand tourer coupe designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro with every possible convenience (for 1992) – electric everything and full black leather and alcantara `suede` – and was produced by Subaru to show the world that they could produce something more than farm vehicles! | Sadly, they didn’t sell and it was discontinued in 1997. They were around £30,000 in the UK – not much less than a Jaguar XJS – which it beat along with an Audi S2, Mitsubishi 3000GT, Nissan 300ZX and Honda Legend in Autocar’s August 1992 Road Test. | The cars were made in very small numbers and of the 24,500 or so made in total, only about 200 were imported direct by Subaru into the UK – so this is an ultra rare car. | The best bits: | I have spent around £6,500 during my 12 years of ownership – most has been servicing including cam shaft drive belts.
